Everything in Estepona Runs on the School Year
An English school in Estepona doesn't have a flat year. It has two clear peaks — September, when the academic year starts, and January, when half the town resolves to finally learn the language — and a summer with fewer regular groups and more intensives. In between, a trickle of parents hunting for a slot for their child and adults who want to sit an exam.
That calendar is where local SEO lives. If your Google listing says nothing about September enrolment in August, then when people search they will find someone else.
Who Is Actually Searching for an English Academy in Estepona
Not everyone searching is the same customer. At least four different people walk through a school like yours, each with a different question:
- Parents with school-age children. They want age groups, a timetable that fits around school and a clear monthly price. Two or three schools in the area get compared.
- Adults picking English back up. They arrive with a question about their level and a bit of embarrassment at starting again. The level test is both what puts them off and the reason they call.
- Exam candidates. Cambridge, IELTS, Trinity or Aptis with real dates attached. They ask about results, syllabus and hours.
- Foreign residents and seasonal students. Estepona has a long-established British community. Some want Spanish; others want English support for their children.
"English classes for kids Estepona" and "IELTS preparation Estepona" are different searches with different intent, and they deserve different answers.
Your Google Listing Is the Shop Window on a Phone
When somebody searches "English academy near me" on their phone, they see a map with three listings. Google explains that the order depends on relevance, distance and prominence. Nobody can promise you the top spot, but all three can be worked on:
- The right primary category. "Language school" as the main category, with sensible secondary ones. A vague category quietly removes you from the searches that matter.
- Opening hours that are true, summer included. If you open mornings only in July and the listing says nine at night, people call, nobody answers and they go elsewhere.
- Services listed one by one. "English for children", "Cambridge exam preparation", "Adult classes". Each service is a doorway from a different search.
- Real photos of the place. The classroom, the entrance, the waiting area where parents sit for ten minutes. Nobody enrols a child somewhere they've never seen.
- Recent, answered reviews. A review from 2021 says nothing; ten from this academic year say plenty. Replying to them, including the critical ones, shows how you treat people.

The Level Test Is Your Best-Converting Page
If there is one page every language school should have, it is the level test: it is what people type before they call. "English level test", "level test English adults Estepona". Someone who has already decided to study and is only choosing where.
A good level test page does three things:
- Explains how it works. In person or written? How long? Free? Before enrolment or on the first day? Concrete answers remove the admin calls.
- Gives an immediate next step. A short form, a WhatsApp button or a visible number. If someone has to hunt for how to contact you, they cool off.
- Says what happens afterwards. Which group fits, when it starts and what it costs. Uncertainty is the biggest barrier to enrolling.
You can use the booking link or the level test link straight from your listing, so someone who finds you on the map skips the homepage.
September and January: Prepare the Peak Before It Arrives
The most common mistake is publishing enrolment information once the season has started. Parents check timetables in late August, and in January adults want a group that starts as soon as possible. A realistic calendar:
- Mid-August. Google Posts with enrolment hours, age groups and start dates. Fresh photos and a clear note that places close group by group.
- September. Content on how to choose an academy for children, which level matches each school year and what the first week looks like. Answer every review.
- December. Before Christmas, announce January intensives and new adult groups. People who resolve to start in January browse in the last week of December.
- January. Refresh the listing with new hours, update the enrolment page and open the level test for the groups starting.
- June and July. Camps, intensives and catch-up classes. A different customer: children who shouldn't lose their English over the holidays and adults with more free time.
None of this needs a large agency: it needs somebody who remembers to update the listing at the right moment.
Children, Adults and Exams: One Page Each
Plenty of schools put everything on one page with a list of services. That works for someone who already knows you, not for someone who finds you on Google. Each group searches with different words:
- Children and teenagers. Parents want age bands, class sizes, whether teachers are native speakers and how progress is assessed. Above all, where the school is and what time the class finishes, because many come straight from school.
- Adults. A timetable that fits around work, whether the group is at a similar level, whether a missed class can be made up. Flexibility matters more than price.
- Exam preparation. Detail wins: which exam, which session, how many hours, what materials and what happens if they don't pass first time. The group that compares the most values transparency the highest.
With one page per group you show up in very specific searches that bring in people who have already decided. An English version of the site also covers foreign residents.
In Estepona, the English Version Isn't Optional
Estepona has one of the most settled foreign communities on the Costa del Sol: British families with children at local or international schools, retired couples, professionals who have relocated for work. Many look for exactly what you offer, in English — "English classes for kids Estepona", "Spanish lessons for foreigners Estepona".
A Spanish-only website leaves part of that audience outside, and not just because of language but because of trust. A British parent who finds a clear English version, with hours, levels and prices, feels the place is ready for them.
You don't need to translate the whole site. The key pages — home, classes, enrolment, contact — plus an English version of the Google listing cover the essentials. See how we structure it in our web design work.
What You Control and What You Don't
It's worth being honest, because the industry is full of loose promises. Some things depend on you, some don't:
- Up to you: a complete, current listing, recent reviews, a site that loads fast on a phone, and a phone and WhatsApp that actually work.
- Up to Google: the algorithm that decides map order, interface changes and the experiments it runs with results. Nobody can promise you a specific position, and be wary of anyone who does.
- Up to your competition: how many schools operate in your area and how they look after their listing. Central Estepona is not the same as an urbanisation with two schools.
What you can do is work the factors you control, measure which searches bring calls and adjust each season. Ongoing work, not a switch.
What Local SEO for a Language School Costs
At Solaris we work with two fixed plans, no lock-in and no surprises on the invoice:
- Local Pack — €150/month + VAT. Optimising your Google Maps listing: categories, services, hours, photos, description and review management. For schools whose website works and whose map visibility doesn't.
- Content Pack — €250/month + VAT. Everything in the Local Pack plus SEO articles for your website, aimed at the searches in your sector and your season.
If you also need a new website, our web design starts at €180 + VAT for the Basic (one page) and €350 + VAT for the Professional (up to five pages, no online shop). One or two extra enrolments a term usually covers the monthly plan; the rest is margin for the school.
